Back Then
I don't remember any words of the day, I just remember. "Today is Winnnnzzzzday (insert date)"
No. Luckily tuning instruments spared me from a lot of morning announcements. I do, however, recall the amusement in hearing the same names butchered over and over again during the sports recaps and whatnot.
No but I remember his famous "Jostens will be here this week for your class rings"
No, but I do remember that 'Josten's is coming on Tuesday'
I don't. But I remember his distinct pronunciation of "Jostens" and many other words.
No....but I wish I did!! This question just brought a smile to my face!
No word of the day sticks out, but I remember him using the word "dastardly" an awful lot during the A Key aftermath.
I didn't even remember that he had words of the day.
I can recall the distinct way he said " Today is Wee-dnesday" and I often pronounce it that way still.
I dont think I ever listened to morning announcments.
No but I do know that he robbed a bank in Great Valley in the Spring and wasn't arrested until the Fall. He still drove our bus!
Seems to me that the Wall kids were on bus #56, aimed by Frenchy.
Lefty and dont remember the number
I think my bus in Wall was #56 and 'Frenchie' (spelling?) was the driver. And I think it was bus #57 in Fairhaven, but I could be wrong.
bus 10 we had EB and then Mark Loving
Cleetas. Crazy thing is she was my PAT bus driver for getting home from work. We talked and she remembered who I was especially because she knew my Dad real well. Small world.
I don't remember the bus number, but we had Mark Loving and Dale Edwards Sr as bus drivers.
Bus #55, maybe? Sharon was our bus driver.
No idea. These are the things I text Amy Butler if I need to know. She is the part of my brain that houses this type of information.
No but I have dreams that I'm standing at it and can't remember it while late for class.
Pretty sure it was...
No. I'm just kidding. Besides, I seem to remember just carrying everything with me anyways.
No i dont- Be honest i did not remember it when i was there.
Heck no. There were several times even in school where I didn't remember either the locker # or the combination. I can remember entire segments of the year where I simply didn't use my locker because I couldn't remember the combination. As I said... I was a terrible student.
yes I do its in my book I still have from high school
I believe my dad actually has my locker number tag attached to the stick bridge we made in our drafting class.
I actually think it was 10-39-22. I had the same locker and combination for 3 years. Not sure of the locker number, but it was near Mr. Malloy's room.
I think it had a 32 and a 14 in it, but I don't remember the full combination.
I was locker number 1 my senior year.
Baseball. Fridays before FB games. Gate field trips which always ended with shopping with Mrs. Pennington. Mr. Frank's "Barbie" disappearance from Physics class.
Mr. Sabol class and lunch...and Mr. Stewart's class although I hated his class
I wouldn't exactly say that my days at EA were 'fond' worthy. But, there are some things that I remember as being amusing: Mr. Berger's "satanic" tie; Andre Taylor dropping a pencil into the heater in Mr. Nee's class; Mr. Nee's class in general, like when we had a short-day schedule and he threw the entire 5th period class out because he thought the bells were off; Sweet Frankie running down the hall to demonstrate a falling object from a moving source;Sweet Frankie's 'Vectors are added tail to tip' song; the Say It computer program in Mr. Adams' class; Mr. Gates always using 'The Wall Hotel' as a choice on tests; Mr. Kahl erasing half of a chalkboard because he made a mistake after you've already taken notes; Book It pizza parties
Hanging out with friends before homeroom, before the next class started. Making after school plans.
Football games and graphics class
painting murals in halls for upcoming dances etc..
Band and orchestra concerts were great character-building experiences and a huge pay-off for a lot of hard work. The trips that we took to Florida and Tennessee were amazing! I have many fond memories from those trips - many of which can't be shared publicly. I was also involved with school musicals, as a musician and as a member of the graphics team that made the sets and did work behind the scenes. I loved those days!
Band camp for colorgurad, football games, and dances.
Our multiple senior skip day lunches and especially the one where Jen Bouris back into my car were our bumpers got stuck together. When we managed to pull apart, her bumper got ripped off.
Being around a good group of people. The music department trips to Orlando, Tampa, and Tennessee were a blast.
Parties at Maureen's house
Hanging out with Kelly, Jocelyn, Amy, Katie, Kelleigh, Missy, Laura, Andrea, Joi and Melissa. The Poonanis (lol, what were we thinking with that name??!!) Driving around in my truck with Amy. Soccer games. The musicals. Class trips to DC, NYC, etc. Working with Jenny, Laura and Jen at McGartlands in Wilmerding. Lifegaurding with Jenny at Sandcastle.
School dances, particularly those that were in the "indoor court." School trips with band and orchestra. I also loved when it was musical season (which lasted a few months) because Mr. Hackett would write passes for me, Jocelyn, Kelly and others to get out of class under the pretense that we were doing things for musical when we were really just hanging out in the auditorium.
all the partys and the Friday night football games
Skipping class and Friday night meets
Sports, friends and family.
Mr. Nee saying in a very direct voice " im sorry you are miss informed any time you answered something wrong.Mr Nee kicking you out of class if you didnt have a pencil telling upu not to come back till you found one and people being gone for days and getting kick out for lunch because the bells must not be working on pep rally days.I loved that mans class.Hanging in the indoor court after lunch.
The High School football games. The community would really come together to watch the games.
The group of friends I had
The illusion of not having any real responsibilities except for showing up and exchanging air.
I miss the friendship and camaraderie most of all. We didn't have a care in the world and we had time to hang out every day. I think we had a uniquely tight-knit class and school. Maybe it's because the district is so small, but it seemed to me that everybody in our grade got along for the most part and we knew pretty much everybody in the building. These days, I don't even see the school friends that I'm close with very often.
Being able to see some of my closest friends everyday. I'm hoping this site is able to bridge some of the gaps that have regrettably grown over time.
Not having to pay bills. Seeing your friends every day.
Being with friends constantly. Being an adult (a working mom, especially!) makes it hard to carve out the time to see everyone I'd like to. I miss the days when socializing was how I spent most of my time! Sleepovers, parties, sitting at King's or Eat N' Park for hours on end. Running to the mall with a friend.
The lack of responsibilities we had and seeing friends everyday!
hanging out with all my friends
Not having any responsibilities
Not caring and being irresponsible
Honestly seeing everyone.
Nothing really. I couldn't wait for High School to be over.
Graphic arts, ski club, french club, musical productions
Orchestra.
And avoiding other activities.
Track, baseball, I was in the band WAYYYY back in the day too HAHAHA
The parties on the weekend that we all planned
Percussion in band and orchestra, graphic arts
Track, colorguard, wintergurad, and photography.

Graphics with Mr. Sabol gave me a great sense of accomplishment and pride with putting out work that was put to practical use by the student body and district personnel. It was essentially an internship. Another class that was especially pivotal and instrumental in my professional development was Computer Math with Mr. Mauro. I took that class without having any idea what it was about - I thought it was just a math class. It turned out to be a programming class in GWBasic. Up to that point, I had no interest in computers at all. And although I didn't realize it at the time, it sparked an interest in me that would be the building blocks of my entire career. I still have some of my old programs from that class. I also have fond memories of Mr. Regrut, Mr. Gates, Mr. Viola (the class anyway), Mr. Gajdos, Ms. Johns, Mr. Sample, Mrs. Lovejoy.
French....even though I sucked. Photo class, and social studies....I think Mr.Stewart was his name.
Even though I hated math and science, Mr. Frank got me to like Physics. I also really enjoyed Ms. Jordan's English class. Mr. Berger's English class our junior year was insane. Mr. Rizzo was a teacher that had a great impact on my life. He taught me more than music, he showed me how to be a leader.
Dr. Pennington, Mr. Ihnat, Ms. Snyder. I am pretty sure almost all of the other teachers found me to be obnoxious. (I don't blame them - I did wear pantsuits.)
Mrs. K was awesome...I literally did nothing and got an A in Spanish, Graphics was the best though!
Ms. Jordan, Mr. Bez, Frank, Ms. Kreslovich, Dr. Pennington
Mr. Malloy, Mr. sample, and Mrs. Campbell
I wouldn't say I particularly "liked" any class or teacher.
Mr. Bez and I might be one of the few that liked Mr. Stewart
Mr. Mauro was my favorite teacher. He came to my home when I had my son during my Senior year and came to his birthday party. I wonder if he is still around?
I seem to remember some kind of 'B___ the Bull Day' we used to have at Green Valley; it was some kind of roast beef awareness program, and they would serve open-faced roast beef sandwiches that day in the Gym-a-Caf-a-Torium.
Mullets, Jean Jackets, playing baseball/football/hockey in the middle of the streets
the ability to walk through the doors without having to go through metal detectors..
The 6th grade dinner dance, playing in the "cheese" at Westinghouse, Earth Day with Joe DeNardo
Homecoming parade with the cars around the track
The milk jugs full of pennies that people would bring to the football games and use as noise makers.
Earth Day at Westinghouse - I loved singing Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love of All" at the top of my lungs.
Over the top prom attire - friends from college thought it was so weird that we wore full length beaded gowns, sometimes with elbow length gloves!
Sweat pants with one legged pulled up and pegging the jeans. not forget Nike Jordan, my favorite sneakers.
Random things being stolen
Missing Churchman painting, class bell ringing, etc etc.
Someone pooed in the pool; Truckin' EA; Ms. Macheon's career prior to becoming a substitute teacher; a house party that left someone in a neck brace when they jumped out of a window; 2 classmate-involved shooting incidents
Skipping school and going over to Dan Rullo's house to tap into the phone lines, to prank several dozens of teachers and class rooms. That was a classic. Having Dan actually move to my old neighborhood of Fairhaven at the time was an epic event.
i dunno if i'd call it a scandal,jus a harsh memory..When Steven Corey passed..
Hmm... this could be dangerous. I don't want to implicate anybody in any incidents, so I'll be vague. There was the multi-year manipulation of the PA system (bell ringing, etc.), the unauthorized use of A-keys, various inappropriate interactions between classmates of the opposite sex on buses and during school sanctioned activities. I seem to remember going through several (6?) math teachers as replacements for Mr. O'hara in 7th or 8th grade because our class was so bad - I recall chairs being thrown out of the 2nd story windows into the outdoor court, etc. I remember the portrait of George Churchman being taken by some people and photos of it at various locations being sent to the school along with notes written on behalf of Churchman. I remember an inflatable Santa Claus being placed inside of the stadium. I remember certain people sneaking out of the building for off-campus lunches and other unapproved activity.
One night Dan Rullo, Jim Soko, Jeff Martin, and myself ( I think Beard or Dray was involved in this also) got the great idea to splice into a telephone line in the high school parking lot and see if we attached a phone to it if we could prank call people. Well, we could. We first called someone we knew and asked them to *69 us back to what number we were actually connected to. Turns out it was the district office's line. I'm still baffled a cop never drove by and found it suspicious that a car was parked directly next to a telephone pole with a wire from said pole running into one of the windows of the car. Also the travels of the Churchman painting. When anytime we got hungry I'd climb through the ceiling into the snack room by the band room and steal some candy and pop. The theft of a 20 foot inflatable Santa Claus, stuffing into the back of Dray's Jimmy, leaving it on Mr. Dowden's porch, then reclaiming it and inflating it on the EA track one night. These next two didn't necessarily involve school, but great scheme was when Jeff Martin worked at Wendys and they ran a promotion where there was a chance to win a house from Century 21 on their large drink cups, so he conveniently misplaced a few boxes of the cups into the back of his car. We spent many a hour peeling off those game pieces, convinced we were going to win a house. We didn't, but what we did win was a ton of free Wendys food. Also taking the cases of Pepsi, Mtn Dew, and Lipton Brisk Iced Tea that K Mart would leave outside the store overnight. And of course, the A Key incident.
Rumors of a certain person giving sexual favors to the entire soccer team. Also, Mr. Rizzo dating one of our classmates.
It would not be fair to others and I don't want to incriminate myself. :)
A group of people breaking in after hrs and stealing items as a prank, the Painting of Churchman going missing, Mr. Ihnats missing grade book
It all seemed scandalous and dramatic when you are a teenager!
Sambo the security guard and his female friends
Pretty much all of it...really.
I remember Mr. Viola making me sit in China or Siberia or whatever he called it because I refused to do his speeches.
Mr. Viola caught me passing Tamera cigarettes during an assembly..he was cool about it tho, only verbally warned us..
I had plenty! Far too many to mention. Back in Westinghouse, I remember putting empty chocolate milk cartons into a locker that I shared with Sam Gallo. I have no idea why I did that, it made no sense. What was I keeping them for? Anyway... at the end of the year IT STUNK TO HIGH HEAVEN!! I thought they were going to have to tear down the building.
Aside from that, most of my embarrassing moments occurred outside of school and typically involved girlfriends and their parents.
When I fought Maria Miller in a dress.....lol
The day I earned the nickname "Egg" which I have come to love still being called by my closest (and now even their kids)
Messing my solo about 50 times during halftime of the first football game senior year, and Jeff Martin's relentless heckling immediately afterward. Also, one time when sitting in the band room prior to leaving for a competition, Dan randomly decided to grab my arm hard as hell. I turned to him and yelled "What the f*ck!!!". The entire room went silent, with everyone looking to see who yelled that. I, trying to play it off, turned to look around also. The only bad thing is, the only thing that was behind me was a giant bass drum. So Mr. Rizzo quickly realized it was me, pulled me into his office, and proceeded to yell at me rather loudly using the "do you kiss your mother with that mouth" line.
I never embarrassed easily. I probably should have, but not much got to me.
Falling down the stairs in 8th grade

Damnit Dan this was 20+ years ago.
Catching the final out of the section championship game Sr. year in baseball.
I never got stuffed in a locker...that counts, right?
I actually made honor roll once as a senior. Still don't remember how.
None really stick out, I mean I graduated so I guess that tops my list HAAHAH
(Barely) passing Mr. Stewart's 9th grade social studies class.
Going into our junior year, our marching band had won every competition we were in for something like 7 years in a row. Also, there was a band from up north, Erie McDowell, that only competed in the Norwin competition in our region each year, and year they took first place in AAA. Our Junior year was our first year competing in AAA, moving up from AA. Well, McDowell beat us. Our senior year I wanted so badly to defeat them and at the Norwin show we did, getting revenge from the previous year and becoming the first band in our region to beat them. We went on to have an undefeated season and win the AAA championship.
Making it to State Orchestra and getting picked to be the student that got to go to Kennywood for the WPXI valedictorian thing they did.

my friends, boys, my future plans
Sports, girls, and working out.

Dance, friends and getting good grades.
I wasnt very exciting.... country music and working... I loved my job.
Graduating....sense the theme here. But I did enjoy relationships created with classmates. It made the time fly by. So much so, that I can't remember a thing.
Absolutely nothing, it's all a part of what made me who I am now
Wouldn't change anything...because each moment of our lives mold who we are today.
I would not have given Dan Rullo my phone number (There you go Dan, I've answered a question for you)
I think I would have tried to be more social.
Maybe.
Maybe I would have accepted the invitation to the GATE program back in 3rd/4th Grade
Was just saying a couple weeks ago that I wished I had paid more attention in health and science in school.
Probably would have paid more attention in my classes
id definitely have made more of an effort
I was an absolutely terrible student and my wife will happily point out that I have the transcripts to prove it. If I could go back in time, I would have taken school more seriously and would have been much more focused. I have struggled in many ways as I go through life due to things that I should/could have learned in school but chose not to simply because I was lazy. I would also have gotten into more school activities (sports, etc.). And of course... THE HAIR!
Focus more in school and go straight to college after. Trying to do it now is harder than I thought.
Not much. I'd probably learn to play soccer since most of my friends were on the team.
I would like to have not been so shy/closed off. I would also have liked to tried out for softball.
Not gotten upset when there were arguments. Friends argue and then they make up. Life is short - believe me, I know! But I wouldn't change much. I absolutely loved high school and who I spent time with and I am so glad that so many of us have remained friends. I love my life now with my husband and daughter and I love my career. But those were the days!
I had in unbelievable group of friends who I still keep contact with and wouldn't change a thing. Through the good, the bad, and the ugly I learned so much that I wouldn't give any of it up.
Get a job and go on more dates :)
Maybe I would have been more involved. I can't remember much from High School that was very memorable. Yikes!

Places... Clifford's Pizza by Denny's, Mr. Pockets by Giant Eagle, Wendy's at 30 & 48, Irene's Pizza, Folino's Market. My bus stop was Lonzo's Market (a.k.a. "The Wall Mall"), and who could forget the Wall Hotel! I don't know if the Wall Bridge (Spring Hill Bridge) counts, but back in our day, it was functional. The bar known as Off The Wall was called Redshaw's, Eddies was called Paul's (until Paul's body was found dismembered), and Wal Mart used to be the drive in theater. Iceplant Hill was once an actual functioning road. Hills department store became Ames, then whatever it is now. Oh... and EASTLAND MALL! And here's a good one... how about all of us standing in pay phone lines after football games to call our parents!
Nigro's Restaurant, Greater Valley Drive-in

The drive in! Blain Hill for 10 cent wings. I used to love Cliffords and Irenes. Being a Green Valley guy I have to give Eastland Mall some love too.

Pegging of the pants!!! Number one!!!! Spike their hair ( I was an example of that)
crimping their hair..thank GOD that faded
I remember some of the girls walking around with pacifiers in their mouths... during HIGH SCHOOL! We could discuss hair, but that's always changing and I'm in no position to criticize. In middle school, we used to "peg" our pant legs.
Big bangs and rolled socks

- "Phat" (adj: Having excellent qualities, not related to excessive weight at all)
- "Sick" (adj: Better than Phat)
- "Skillet" (a.k.a. "Lid") (n: Hat, usually of the baseball variety)
- "Bunji" (v: The act of running behind a classmate in the hall and pulling down their (for some reason) loose-fitting pants, exposing their undergarments (hopefully))
- "Bunk" (adj: Lame, or otherwise undesirable)
- "Plugging" (v: A short-lived fad that involved inserting metal objects such as paper clips into electrical outlets causing a short in the circuit and subsequently triggering a breaker to open. This was often done in rooms like Mr. Inhat's first floor classroom that had outlets on the floor near student desks.)
- "The Hook Up" (n: Doing a favor for a friend, often saving them money or other resources. Examples include the great Hechinger's Hardware Store operation of 1993/1994 when the retail chain was relieved of inventory at an unauthorized price point or when 3,000 Wendy's "peel & win" cups found their way into the trunks of our cars resulting in 8 solid months of cash-free eating)
- "Mad Skills" (n: A collection of talents and/or highly-polished acquired skillset. May or may not be a derivation of the term "wide skills" used in 1980s pop culture such as in songs like UTFO's 'Bite It')
- "Grub" (n: Food, usually of the teenage type such as a 6-pack of Taco Bell soft tacos or Pizza Hut pizza. Example: "Dude, I'm about to pound some grub!")
- "Grit" (v: To stare at another person in a threatening or otherwise unwanted way. Example: "Why's that dude grittin' on me?")
- "Silly style" (adj: Putting forth all effort in a manner that looks or seems unnatural or ridiculous. Example "He punched him in the indoor court then just went all silly style on his ass")
- "Hit that" (v: To engage in intercourse with a lady who has caught your attention. Examples: "Oh man, I'd really like to hit that. It seems like the type of thing that I would rather enjoy.", "Excuse me miss, may I please hit that?", "I'll have to call you back later - I am currently in the process of hitting that.", "As it turns out, hitting that wasn't a great idea.")
On second thought, the term mentioned above seems a bit demeaning and offensive towards women, especially those kind enough to share their goodies. I recommend skipping past this term and not reading it. - "Business in the front, Party in the back" (a reference to a mullet. Could also be used to describe a slutty girl's body I suppose (see "Hit That"))
- "Beotch" (n: Bitch)
- "Pimp Slap" (n:/v: A disciplinary action that is nothing more than an ordinary slap, but executed in such a way that it re-asserts one's authority over another. One does not need to be a pimp by occupation, but it probably helps.)
- Then there is an entire family of words too numerous to be individually cited here. Those words are modified regular words that have the letters 'A' + 'Z' at the end, typically replacing 'ERS' and pronounced with a distinct long 'AAAHHHZZZ' sound coined and perhaps officially trademarked by Jeff Estadt.
I think Dan's list is remarkably damn near perfect.

All that, NOT, sike and no duh.

I was into pretty heavy music back then. My favorite bands in school were very heavy bands and I still like some of them. But I've always liked a mix of many genres. I have always listened to everything from Metallica & Slayer to Mozart & Bethoven to Notorious B.I.G. & NWA and even some classic country. My family & friends make fun of me because my music & movie interests stopped evolving in the 80s and 90s. Most of the entertainment media that I like is from that era and I'm convinced that everything that has come out since is garbage. They just don't make stuff like they used to.

Rush, U2, STP, Nirvana, Metallica to name a few. Favorite song then, and still among my favorites to this day is "Lightning Crashes" by Live. From a symphony side, Hounds of Spring, Russian Easter Overture, and New World Symphony were, and continue to be, my favorites.
